Incidents

April 24, 1995

Chagrin Blvd at Interstate 271

Beachwood, Ohio

Initially reported as an overturned dump truck, firefighters found an MC306 gasoline tanker overturned with all four compartments breached and leaking down a four lane highway full of traffic.

The tanker was in the City of Beachwood, but the gasoline product was entering Pepper Pike, Woodmere and Orange Village.

A shopping center, dozens of businesses, several streets of homes, nearby hotels and offices buildings were evacuated as 8,000 gallons of gasoline filled the roadway.

The foam truck from Cuyahoga County Airport, two hazmat teams, ten fire departments, Ohio EPA, cleanup contractors, CEI, EOG and others responded to this incident.

The evacuation lasted twenty-eight hours.
